Case Study: From Emergency A/C Call to Insurance-Covered HVAC Upgrade

When a Sewickley homeowner’s A/C quit right before out-of-town visitors, Spurk HVAC stepped in
with same-day service and honest guidance, ending in a full system upgrade that was fully
covered by insurance.

The Emergency

A homeowner in Sewickley reached out to Spurk HVAC in full panic mode: their A/C had stopped working during a summer heatwave, just days before hosting out-of-town guests, and other HVAC companies were booked out for weeks.

The owner was in a tough spot: they could try a quick A/C repair to get the system running before guests arrived, but their aging system was likely to break down again, making the repair feel useless.

Challenges:

Financial concerns about the cost of replacement

The Solution

Our scheduling team was able to shift appointments and book them that same day by working with clients who had less urgent cooling maintenance needs.

When our technician arrived, they discovered electrical damage to the A/C system, likely caused by a power surge. Fortunately, the homeowner had equipment coverage, and their insurance company approved the cost of A/C replacement.

However, the rest of the HVAC system was in similarly poor condition: inefficient, outdated, and approaching the end of its lifespan.

Our technician explained the long-termvalue of a full system replacement, including:

Improved energy efficiency & performance

Better dehumidification for Pennsylvania’s muggy summers

Increased efficiency for the cold winter months

    Full warranty coverage

$2,000-$2,500 savings over purchasing the systems separately

Spurk HVAC’s technician also made sure to understand the customer’s priorities, including environmental impact, indoor comfort, and year-round effectiveness, and walked through how a newer system would respond better to both summer humidity and winter dryness caused by natural gas heat.

Convinced of the long-term value, the homeowner reached out to their insurance company to request full system coverage, but the claim was initially denied.

To advocate on the homeowner’s behalf, Spurk HVAC drafted a custom letter to the insurance company, detailing:

The benefits of replacing the entire hvac system rather than just the a/c

The increased functionality, efficiency, and lifespan of a modern, matched system

The cost savings of avoiding duplicated labor, permits, and installation fees

The Results

The insurance company approved the claim. We stayed in touch throughout the process, coordinating with the insurer, answering questions, and ensuring everything moved forward smoothly.

A consultant visited the home the day after approval to provide an estimate. With full insurance approval, the customer felt confident moving forward.

Spurk HVAC replaced the homeowner’s entire system with a modern, energy-efficient HVAC system designed to keep up with Pennsylvania’s hot, humid summers and dry winter indoor air.

The homeowner was relieved to welcome guests into a cool, comfortable home, without the financial stress they’d feared just days earlier.
